I wouldn’t say that’s worse than a Juke, just looks like most work trucks.

It’s certainly not the best looking truck, but saying it’s uglier or even as ugly as the Juke is laughable.

Every single part of this vehicle just looks wrong. Like companies focus group stuff like this right?

No, it’s way uglier than the Juke. Look at the side profile of the front fender.

I’m sorry, did the QX56 somehow get dethroned when I wasn’t looking?

Kinja'd!!!

The Juke is odd, sure—but this abomination looks like it needs a rhinoplasty stat . My first thought was “Spaceballs.”

Kinja'd!!!

And the rear isn’t hardly any better:

I like the lines on the side the best! At least it’s not the Tonka toy everyone else is trying to be.

You’re not making the case you think you are with that picture. It looks great!

It doesn’t though, it looks like an over designed mess. There is more going on on the front fender than there is on the entirety of the Civic Type-R.

They used to do focus groups back in the late 90's/early 2000's. I was paid to do a few for GM and Acura. They must of stopped shortly after, there is no way “The Acura Beak”would of ever passed one of those groups. The last one I was invited to was for the Buick Enclave. They clearly didn’t listen to my feedback on that one.

It’s certainly over designed, but not much more than any other new vehicle. Sorry, I’m just not seeing it.

I don’t see a problem here. In fact that dipping front fender line is an original move, however small. It’s a nod to the pontoon fenders of trucks from the 50's, and is becoming somewhat of a corporate design cue for Chevy, first seen on the current Malibu. Overall the truck is appropriately butch.

It’s pretty clear this is the look they were going for, but at some point they looked at a Mazda5 and a new Odyssey, and thought “hey people like swoops lines, let’s and some randomly.”

The reason they’re ugly is because they’re for work.

Unpainted and non=chrome parts are way cheaper to produce. Plus they’re not really intended for the average consumer. They’ll mostly be sold as fleet vehicles.

It’s all for cost savings. Just getting the truck in black would make a huge difference just like the last two generations of GM trucks. Dad had a ‘10 Chevy 1500 base with the black bumpers and metallic black paint. You barely noticed them.

I know they were trying to emulate old trucks with that front end, but to me it just looks awful. It would likely work if the whole front end lost 4-6 inches in vertical thickness or the “pontoon” seemed less of an afterthought.

This is why I agree with Torchinsky in that making a retro thing modern is better than making a modern thing retro.

I do personally believe the late ‘90's GM’s are the nicest designed trucks ever but the new trucks are just part of the current design trends.

My reply was in reference to the base model truck pictured in the post.
